Final Communication 2025-2026

Posted Date: 06/23/26 (01:20 PM)

Dear SWIS Families,

As we reach the end of another wonderful school year, I want to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to our students, staff, families, PTO, and community partners.  The success of Swanson Road Intermediate School is built on the strong relationships and partnerships we share, and I am deeply appreciative of the support, trust, and encouragement you have provided throughout the year.

Report Cards and iReady Results

Final report cards will be available through the Parent Portal.  I encourage families to take time to review both report card standards and your child's End-of-Year iReady results.  While these reports provide valuable information about academic progress and areas for continued growth, they also tell the story of a year's worth of hard work, perseverance, and learning. Please take a moment to celebrate your child's accomplishments and the growth they have achieved this year.

Summer Reading and Learning

One of the greatest gifts we can give children is a love of reading.  Research consistently shows that students who continue reading throughout the summer return to school more confident, engaged, and ready to learn.  I encourage all students to participate in our summer reading expectations and take advantage of the many wonderful programs offered through the Auburn Public Library.

Learning during the summer does not need to look like school.  Reading together, keeping a journal, practicing math while shopping, mastering math facts, helping with cooking and baking, writing letters or postcards, exploring nature, and simply having meaningful family conversations all contribute to continued growth and learning.

We are fortunate to live in a region rich with educational opportunities.  Consider visiting local museums, historical sites, parks, nature centers, libraries, zoos, aquariums, and cultural attractions.  Whether exploring a museum exhibit, walking a nature trail, attending a community event, or discovering local history, these experiences spark curiosity, creativity, and lifelong learning.

Looking Ahead

As students prepare for a new school year, summer is also a wonderful opportunity to build independence, responsibility, resilience, and confidence.  Encouraging children to try something new, meet new people, solve problems, and step outside their comfort zones helps prepare them not only for the next grade level, but for life.

A Personal Note of Appreciation

Thank you for entrusting us with your children each and every day.  Serving as principal of SWIS is both an honor and a privilege.  Watching our students learn, grow, overcome challenges, and celebrate successes is one of the most rewarding parts of this work.  Truly.

Our students accomplish so much because of the partnership we share with families.  Your support at home, your encouragement, and your belief in your children make an incredible difference. Together, we help create a school community where children feel safe, supported, challenged, and loved.

On behalf of the entire staff at Swanson Road Intermediate School, I wish you and your family a safe, healthy, relaxing, and joy-filled summer.  Take time to slow down, enjoy one another, explore new places, read great books, and create lasting memories.

As we celebrate our Grade 5 students and send them on to Auburn Middle School, we wish them continued success and happiness.  To our returning students and families, we look forward to welcoming you back in the fall for another wonderful year at SWIS.

Wishing you a FANTASTIC summer!

Sincerely,

Dr. Lopez
